With more and more businesses and organisations now operating online the need to demonstrate to their customers and clients that they take cybersecurity seriously has never been more important.
A report released by Ping in November 2018, highlighted just how important customers now see cybersecurity.
The data showed that following a breach, 78% of respondents said they would stop engaging with a business online, and 36% said they would stop engaging with that business completely, no one wants their sensitive data falling into the wrong hands.
Media stories such as the Cambridge Analytica and Facebook scandals has increased awareness and made more people savvy and cautious as to who can have their data.
According to several surveys, consumers are increasingly questioning what data security measures businesses have in place.
A report released in December 2018 by PCI Pal, for example, showed that nearly half of the consumers surveyed now check a company’s cybersecurity processes.
Consumers need to know that their data is safe before they are willing to spend cash on a company’s products. The PCI Pal report showed that 26% of consumers would stop spending entirely on goods from a business that they perceive to have poor cybersecurity in place.
By obtaining a Cyber Essentials (or even better) a Cyber Essentials Plus certificate, your business can clearly demonstrate to your customers and partners that you are committed to protecting their data.
Having the Cyber Essentials badge on your website and documentation makes you stand out from your competitors and provides reassurance to customers that you’re serious about tackling cyber risks and gives your partners confidence that their data is in safe hands. This is particularly useful if you store personal information such as financial information or if you host commercially sensitive data.
With more and more people purchasing goods and doing their business online can you afford not to have Cyber Essentials?
