XQ Cyber to Raise Money for Gloucestershire Young Carers

Tewkesbury based cybersecurity company XQ Cyber will be raising money for Gloucestershire Young Carers on August 23rd via a bake sale.

XQ employees have donned their aprons and baked a plethora of (hopefully) delicious cakes that they aim to sell in order to raise money to assist this worthwhile cause.

Why is it a worthwhile cause?

The charity is one close to XQ’s hearts as it has previously helped members of our staff in supporting them in their young carer role.

“It was a breath of fresh air when I realised Gloucestershire Young Carers were there to help. They really helped me to navigate through circumstantial situations that teachers and peers couldn’t. If our bake sale can send one more child to the session run by GYC, it will be completely worthwhile to me.”

There are an estimated 7,000 young carers across Gloucestershire and the average age of those is just 12 years old.

According to research 1 in 5 young people in UK secondary schools are impacted by the ill health of a family member or are responsible for their care.

A young carer is a child under the age of 18 who provides regular or ongoing care and/or emotional support to a family member. They may be involved in the care of an adult or child in their family affected by one or more of the following:

  • a physical disability or sensory impairment
  • a long-term illness
  • mental ill health
  • problematic substance misuse
  • a learning disability
